I wish to do Ph D at IIMT; what is the Admission Process?
 
The Admission Process consists of two phases.
PHASE I
This phase consists of the Research Aptitude Test (RAPT).
 
All the students who wish to pursue Ph D program at IIMT have to take the Research Aptitude Test of IIMT (RAPT October, 2008) which is scheduled on October 26, 2008.
 
The students who qualify the Test will be called for phase II of the admission process.

PHASE II

The phase II of admission process is for two days i.e. December 05 & 06, 2008 and will be held at Hyderabad which consists of the following

  • Case analysis

  • Micro presentation

  • Preliminary interview

  • Final interview

The total components of evaluating the students for admission into the Ph.D. Program are:

  • Research Aptitude Test (RAPT)

  •  Past academic record and work experience

  • Case analysis

  •  Micro presentation

  • Preliminary interview

  •  Final interview

Appropriate weightages are assigned to each of the above components and the composite score is computed based on applicant’s performance. Final admission is made strictly based on merit.

What is the pattern of the RAPT?

RAPT is based on pattern similar to GMAT® and consists of multiple-choice questions in quantitative techniques, data adequacy, vocabulary and writing ability, analytical reasoning and English comprehension.

Who are eligible for this program?

Candidates having first class postgraduate degree (60% and above) in Management, Engineering, Science, Commerce or Arts are eligible for admission into the Ph.D. Program. Candidates with professional qualifications like CFA, CA, ICWA and CS (50% and above) are also eligible.

Who are exempted from RAPT October 2008 Test?

Applicants who have a GMAT® score of 600 and above, those with 85th percentile and above score in CAT/XAT/GATE and IBSAT® rank holders are exempted from RAPT and are eligible for participating in Phase II directly. The score / rank obtained in all the above mentioned examinations are valid only for three years.

Do candidates without MBA degree have to do any extra courses?

Students not having a MBA degrees have to do one year of Pre Ph D course work before they can be admitted to the Ph D Program.

Will stipend be paid to candidates without MBA degree during the 1 year period when they pursue Pre Ph D courses?

The non MBA students will be provided free boarding and a stipend to take care of mess fees as well as living expenses during the 1 year period when they have to pursue the Pre Ph D course work.

What is the last date for submission of the application?

October 16, 2008

Where should I appear for the test?

We have several examination centers across India.

Is there any age limit?

Candidates should be preferably between 23-30 years of age

Is hostel accommodation available for the students? If so, is it single occupancy or shared?

All the students are provided campus accommodation. The hostel is run by the Institute and it is mandatory for students to stay at the campus accommodation. It is single occupancy.

Will the married students be provided family accommodation?

At present there is no family accommodation available for married students. However, in a few months time this facility will be available
What is the Duration of the Ph D Program?

It takes 3 years to complete the Management Teacher Program (MTP). The Ph. D Degree completion generally takes one more year, depending on the progress of work done by candidate.

Is it the Management Teacher Program or Ph D Program?

It is the Management Teacher Program leading to Ph D Degree. The Management Teacher Program (MTP) and Ph D Program run in parallel, which saves time for the students. The students who are enrolled into the MTP are required to simultaneously enroll into the Ph D Program of ICFAI University. At the end of the three year period, the students are expected to successfully complete the MTP and thereby become eligible to teach as full fledged faculty members. However, the submission of Ph D thesis for the award of the Ph D degree is not coterminous with the completion of MTP.

Is any certificate given for the MTP? From which University?

All the students who successfully complete the MTP will be awarded the Certificate in Management Teaching from the Icfai University, Dehradun.

Is Ph D a recognized Degree? Which university gives the degree?

Yes it is. The PhD Degree will be given by the ICFAI University, Dehradun.

Is this University recognized by the UGC?

Yes. Under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956.

What are the Electives offered?
  • Electives will be in the following areas:

  • Marketing

  • HRM

  • Finance

  • Operations

  • IT

  • Doctoral Thesis can be in any one of these areas of management which is of student’s interest.

 

How many seats are available?

There is no limit on seats.

What is the fee for this program? What is the amount of fellowship?

The tuition fee is Rs. 60,000 per semester. But it is waived for all the students who are admitted into the Program.

In addition they will get fellowship as below:

First Year

Rs. 25,000 per month

Second Year

Rs. 27,000 per month

Third year
(under visiting Scholar Program)

US$ 1000- $ 1500 per month

Each year, a professional development grant of Rs. 10,000 is also given to the students for the first two years. During the third year when the students to abroad under the visiting scholar program an amount of USD 750 is given as professional development grant.

Can we get placement after the program? What will be the pay and agreement?

Yes, everyone who successfully completes the MTP will be absorbed by ICFAI University as faculty member on UGC Scales. They have to serve for a minimum period of 5 years.

Could you please tell something about the faculty?

The Management Teacher Program is conducted by competent management faculty. The faculty members play a significant role in ensuring quality education through interactive teaching. The faculty resources include regular, adjunct and visiting faculty. In addition, distinguished faculties are invited to deliver lectures to supplement the teaching done by regular faculty.
