Management education has seen a remarkable growth in India following the rapid economic growth the country has witnessed in the last one decade. From only a few institutions offering graduate education in management about a decade ago, India now has over 1,400 management institutions. However, the doctoral programs and management research have not kept pace with this growth, leading to an acute shortage of qualified management faculty.

The limited number of academicians with Ph.Ds in business and allied areas produced by various Universities in India tend to be inadequate to meet the requirements for teachers at professional business schools. Furthermore, these faculty members seldom maintain their qualifications by conducting research and publishing in peer reviewed journals.

In an environment not very conducive for operating a research focused business school, IBS^® pursued a graded objective of achieving excellence in teaching management education at the graduate level that meets the immediate requirements of the economy and moved progressively towards becoming an excellent research oriented business school. Towards this objective IBS^® established the IIMT^® at Hyderabad in the year 2002.

IIMT^® fulfills a longstanding need for equipping professionals with the knowledge and skills required to become effective management teachers and researchers. The institute offers the Management Teacher Program^® leading to the award of Ph.D. Degree.

The Management Teacher Program^®

The Management Teacher Program^® (MTP^®) is a full-time, campus-based program designed for students interested in management teaching, research, and consultancy. The program is delivered by competent faculty with a judicious blend of advanced content in training, research methodology, case methodology, innovative pedagogic tools, soft skills, and institutional development.

The objectives of the program are to:

• Develop management teachers well equipped with the skills required for imparting education to business school students

• Develop bright young academics with research skills to conduct research in contemporary issues in management

• Enable research scholars to develop research proposals and complete their Ph.D. thesis

• Network with the best business schools in the world to collaborate in doing research.

Duration

The MTP^® is for a period of three years. The students are admitted twice a year, once in January and once in August.

The students who are enrolled into the MTP^® are required to simultaneously enroll into the Ph.D. Program of IBS^®. At the end of the three year period, the students are expected to successfully complete the MTP^® and thereby become eligible to teach as full-fledged faculty members. However, the submission of Ph.D. thesis for the award of the Ph.D. degree need not be coterminous with the completion of MTP^®.

Eligibility

Candidates having first class postgraduate degree in Management, Engineering, Science, Commerce, or Arts are eligible for admission to MTP^®. Candidates with professional qualification like CA, ICWA, and CS are also eligible.
