The Indian economy has been growing at an accelerated rate
since the initiation of economic reforms in 1991. Today, India stands as the
fourth largest economy in the world, next only to USA, China, and Japan, in
terms of purchasing power parity. In the coming years this growth is expected to
continue. Growth in the manufacturing and services sectors of the economy has
resulted in tremendous demand for professional managers, which in turn has
triggered rapid growth in educational institutions offering graduate programs in
management.
It is estimated that there are over 1,400 management schools
in the country offering MBA or equivalent programs and producing over 85,000
MBAs each year. Recent reports indicate that only a microscopic percentage of
these schools are really equipped to offer quality MBA programs. Business
management education is multidisciplinary and should impart conceptual, human,
technical, and decision-making skills to the trainees, to make them highly
competent professionals capable of managing the resources of an enterprise
effectively and efficiently. Obviously, this calls for well-trained and highly
competent faculty in our management schools to train these young men and women.
In this context, the IIMT® was
established in 2002. IIMT®
fulfils a longstanding need for equipping professionals with the knowledge and
skills required to become effective researchers and management teachers.
The Management Teacher Program (MTP®)
of IIMT® leads to the award of Ph.D. in Management from the ICFAI
University, Dehradun and provides intensive training in research methodology,
and exposure to teaching and research activities at universities abroad.
It also imparts training in contemporary techniques for teaching functional and
integrative subjects in management. For those endowed with academic aptitude,
inquisitive minds, and a passion for teaching, research and consultancy, this
program will provide a good platform for a promising career.
The pursuit of this challenging program demands intellectual
maturity, strength of purpose, and willingness to work hard. We invite all those
who aspire to become effective researchers and successful teachers to join with
us in this initiative that has the potential to transform management research
and education in India.
